Kitchen and Canteen

A kitchen is a room or part of a room used for cooking and food preparation. In the West, a modern kitchen is typically equipped with a stove, a sink with hot and cold running water, a refrigerator and kitchen cabinets. Many households have a microwave oven, a dishwasher and other electric appliances. The main function of a kitchen is cooking or preparing food but it may also be used for dining and entertaining.

The idea of standardized dimensions and layout developed for the Frankfurt kitchen took hold while Poggenpohl began exporting to neighboring countries which for the first time required a kitchen specifier known today as a kitchen designer. The equipment used remained a standard for years to come: hot and cold water on tap and a kitchen sink and an electrical or gas stove and oven. Not much later, the refrigerator was added as a standard item. The concept was refined in the "Swedish kitchen" using unit furniture with wooden fronts for the kitchen cabinets. Soon the concept was amended by the use of smooth synthetic door and drawer fronts, first in white, recalling a sense of cleanliness and alluding to sterile lab or hospital settings, but soon after in more lively colors, too.

In order to satisfy the appetites of the students and to give them a break after a half day's hard work the University campus is provided with a relaxing and comfortable canteen. The canteen not only provides the student's of the campus with mouth watering dishes like 'Sambhar-Vada', Sambhar-Idli', 'Rajma-Chawal', 'Uttapam','Fried-Rice', 'Spring Rolls','Thali' etc. but is also one of the most happening places in the campus with all the students gathering there at the clock's stroke of 1 o' clock to discuss their new experiences in the campus. The canteen provided by Handa Caterers has been sponsored by Pepsi and is usually the place of daily normal hob nob of the students and generally the center of attraction during cricket matches and any other live telecasts on television.
