The first choice is to purchase some eCommerce software and intergraded it into your website. The big boys (very large non digital, software and B2B) all do this. We are talking the Amazon.com, Wal-mart's, Home Depot, Microsoft, etc..The reason they have there own eCommerce software is because they have their own back end customer tracking, advertising and inventory reorder reports. These reports are crucial to their business. Lets hope someday it will be crucial to your business.
Yes there are small eCommerce suites (software) for small businesses. Again they can be difficult to integrate unless you have programming experience. The reality is that you would have to generate revenue above $500,000 per year to pay for the software and the head banging on the desk versus letting a eCommerce provider handle that task. Remember we are trying to keep the business simple and highly profitable.
The second choiceand your only choice at this time, is to have a eCommerce provider handle all your transactions. They will take a small fee out of each of your sale to process the transaction and deposit the money in your account. This is the route you will take at this time. You will have other ways of tracking what your business is doing. You will need to set up an account with PayPal. Do it now, It's free. Most of the other eCommerce provides will deposit your earnings in your PayPal account. Also you can use it to purchase other products and services online.
If you need to have credit card acceptance right on your website PayPal can handle that for you. It's easy and it only takes minutes. Keep in mind you are starting and running a business. You will have to provide identification and an Employer Identification Number (EIN) to any one handling your transactions. In addition check into a business license in your area. It may or may not be required.
